BARNET YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Thursdays 6:00pm until 9:00pm

Barnet Youth Orchestra provides opportunities for students of all the orchestral instrumental families, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion, to perform to a high standard in a full symphony orchestra. The orchestra performs termly concerts. Past concerts include performances at Trinity Church, North Finchley and for the Mayor of Barnet’s Appeal at the Peal Centre, Hendon. Concert tours are also organised to various European destinations.

If you are at least Grade 6 on your instrument, a good sight-reader and would welcome the opportunity to play challenging orchestral music in a friendly setting from a 400 year inheritance of classical music, then come and join us.

From the 26th of July to the 2nd of August 2009, Barnet Youth Orchestra and Barnet Youth Wind Orchestras went on tour to Tuscany. Despite the time it took, the journey was fun. As soon as we had arrived, we jumped straight into the pool, which we visited a few times on the tour to escape from the heat! We stayed in Montecatini, but visited places such as Florence, where we had the chance to climb the Duomo, which involved climbing 400 steps. But it was worth it as the view at the top of Florence was beautiful. We also visited Lucca, Siena, Pisa (and the leaning tower) and San Gimignano. We performed concerts in Florence, Lucca and a cathedral in Montecatini, after visiting the town beforehand. The concerts were fun to play in, although tiring and it was great to see how much the locals enjoyed our playing. Overall it was a very fun tour which we all enjoyed thoroughly and thank you to all the staff for making it so enjoyable."
