BARNET SAXOPHONE ENSEMBLE
Thursdays 5:00pm until 6:30pm
Musical Directors: Emily Baker & Adam Wilson
Otherwise known as "Barnet Saxes", this is an ensemble of young saxophonists from the Barnet area which formed in 2001 and has built up to be one of the largest and most active groups of young saxophonists in the country.
Adam and Emily, its founding Musical Directors, have played in a number saxophone ensembles together and are currently members of the Spiral Saxophone Quartet. The aim behind “Barnet Saxes” is to provide students with the opportunity to experience and enjoy playing with other saxophonists and to access music and performance opportunities that they may not otherwise come across in their instrumental lessons.
Performance events and venues to date have included Regent Hall, Oxford Street London, The Civic opening concert at the Arts Depot, North Finchley, East Barnet Festival, Capital Gardens Jazz Nights at The Museum of Garden History, London, The North London Festival of Music & Drama (4 times winners in their category) and the City of London Festival with The Guildhall School of Music & Drama Saxophone Ensemble as well as regular local end of term events.
The ensemble is open to all young saxophonists of approximately grade 3 standard and above. The music played is a mixture of well-known TV and film themes, rock and pop anthems, jazz standards, classical works as well as original pieces written specifically for the ensemble.
